Palace at Forteviot
Forteviot is a small, pleasant, quiet village rebuilt by the late Lord Forteviot in the 1920’s. But it was a
much more important place in Pictish times. It was here that Kenneth McAlpin had his palace and finally
died after a reign of fifteen years. Kenneth himself was the first king to rule over a united Scots - Pictish
kingdom which encompassed all the land north of the Forth and Clyde valleys.
It was to be another one
hundred and fifty years before Malcolm 2nd became the nominal king of Scotland as we know it today,
and yet another two hundred years after that, under Alexander 2nd , before the Kingdom of Scotland
became a reality.
